A medical alert system is for anyone who is looking to maintain their independence. We have clients as young as 18 who have some form of challenge and having a medical alert system allows them the opportunity to be more independent.
We have clients who are elderly and living alone. A medical alert system allows them to maintain their independence and give their loved ones peace of mind that they have some support.
So who is a medical alert system right for? Anyone!
A medical alert system is designed to get loved ones medical help promptly, specifically those who may live alone or spend several hours at a time on their own. The equipment consists of a help button, and a form of communicator with a speaker and microphone allowing communication to our 24/7 monitoring team. During an emergency, the user would press their help button and it will transmit a signal to our 24/7 USA based monitoring center. A trained dispatcher will come over the device speaker to check the user’s status and send necessary help.
We have medical alert systems designed to not only work in your home but mobile devices that can provide you help when you are away from your home.

Fall Detection is one of the questions we get the most and requires a bit of education.
Most people believe that fall detection is a required or necessary component for their loved ones medical alert if they have some balance issues. The truth is during a fall the majority of the time client remains conscious and is able to press their button. In fact we encourage our clients who do use fall detection to STILL press their button after a fall if they are able to.
Fall detection is based off an algorithm that looks at the rate of fall a client experiences and looks for the impact made when the client reaches the ground.
A couple things to note:
1. The first thing we instinctively do during a fall is we reach out to grab at anything we can to break our fall. In doing this we may prevent fall detection from detecting the fall.
2. If a client slips out of a chair or falls out of bed, fall detection may or may not detect the fall.
Where we see the greatest benefit for fall detection is not necessarily with clients with balance issues but rather clients who have a medical condition that may prevent them from pressing their button during a medical episode. Examples may be clients with seizures, severe diabetic episodes, etc. Those are the clients who seem to get the greatest benefit from fall detection.
That being said we are not trying to dissuade you from getting fall detection but rather be up front and honest about what you can expect with fall detection.
GPS location is an extremely useful tool for many of our clients’ families. It provides the ability to track the location of the client by utilizing your cell phone or computer.
This is beneficial for clients with memory or functioning challenges of all ages, allowing the client greater independence while providing the family a system to locate and keep track of the client, providing peace of mind.
We offer two methods of ordering a medical alert for either yourself, a loved one or friend.
The first option is to click on the order now button in the menu above or click HERE. Once your order is submitted through the online system a member of the Midwest Medical Alert team will review the order and get the system programmed and ready. If they have any questions or if you have requested additional information about a specific option they will contact you and get your questions answered.
The second option is to call in to the main office and speak with a member of the Midwest Medical Alert team. We would be happy to obtain the ordering information from you over the phone and get the system programmed and ready for you.
We offer three different payment options to our clients. We do NOT mail invoices each month.
Option 1:
Automatically to a credit card each month. We process these payments on the 3rd of each month.
Option 2:
Automatically to a checking or savings account through ACH. We process these payments on the 3rd of each month.
Option 3:
Annually by check. This runs by calendar year. We mail out invoices for our annual payment customers in early December for the next calendar year. If services are cancelled during the year we will then issue a refund check once the equipment is returned for the unused portion of the year.
Yes. The equipment belongs to Midwest Medical Alert and the client is financially responsible for any lost or damaged equipment. Think of it like renting a car. When you are done using the medical alert equipment it needs to be returned in its entirety.
The first thing to note is that unlike many other companies out there that provide medical alert services there is NO contract you have to sign with Midwest Medical Alert.
We provide our service on a month to month basis for our clients. Life can be stressful enough without having to worry about being locked into a contract.
This is a month to month service. So on the first of the month the service is active and the client pays for the entire month. To cancel the service you need to call in at least 48 hours and a least 1 business day prior to the end of the month. If we are unable to take your call you need to leave a voicemail stating the client’s name, address, your relationship to the client and the reason for cancellation.
Upon cancellation of the service all of the medical alert equipment in its entirety needs to be returned. The client will be financially responsible for any lost, damaged or non-returned equipment.
Thank you for allowing us to provide you or your loved one a medical alert system. All equipment in its entirety needs to be returned to Midwest Medical Alert upon cancellation. The equipment can be mailed through the United States Postal Service (USPS), UPS or FedEx. We strongly encourage you to keep your tracking receipt for the equipment you mailed to verify it was delivered.
The equipment should be mailed to:
Midwest Medical Alert
P.O. Box 273
Rugby, ND 58368
If the equipment is not returned promptly and in its entirety a letter will be mailed to the client with the cost of the missing or damaged equipment.
We have heard this over and over. How do I talk my mom into getting a medical alert? Often we hear of a client’s reluctance to getting a medical alert but once they have it they are happy for the extra peace of mind it provides.
The main thing about a medical alert system is that it is a resource, a tool to help our clients maintain their independence and remain in their homes.
Often times it can help to let your loved one know that you worry about them being alone and it will bring peace of mind to you and their other loved ones knowing they have a medical alert in place if needed.
Reassure them that there is no contract, they are not locked in to anything. That they could try it for a couple of months and could return it if they choose not to keep it.
A medical alert is a lot like a fire extinguisher. It is better to have one and not need it then to need one and not have it!
